The Leaky Beaker is an old boat that was restored by four chemistry graduate students at The Scripps Research Institute.

The beaker is a 16 foot runabout with a 1971 65 hp Mercury outboard. With four passenger it will go about 29 mph on flat water, and is a nice boat for running around San Diego bay and even to the kelp beds on calm days.  Our fishing areas often have view of downtown San Diego (above, left) and the Coronado bridge (above, right).  At the launch ramp (below) Ben pushes the beaker off of the trailer while mark tries to figure out why the boat doesn’t seem to be getting any throttle. This is not an unusual start to an outing. Fortunately the motor basically runs well and and most of the problems are fixed at the dock.

Our main reason for buying the boat was for saltwater fishing in the San Diego area. (Below, left to right: Ben, Mark, Martin, Ryan)
